How to use AdoptOntario
The AdoptOntario program provides families and adoption professionals with the information, tools and resources they need to connect with children waiting for adoption in Ontario. Below is an overview of how to gather information about how to adopt a child on the the AdoptOntario website.
Create an AdoptOntario profile
Enter your personal information to be used only to connect with CAS workers in your region, and for receiving adoption news, event invites, and statistical purposes.
Once you have signed up you will receive a verification email …You are now approved and can search for Waiting Children.
When you receive the confirmation email, follow the instructions to confirm your email address. You will then be prompted to sign in. You are now registered and can search for Waiting Children.
Search the photolisting
A photolisting search will result in seeing a list of children, with each having a picture, their age, gender and a brief description. To open a profile, simply click on a child’s photo that you want to learn more about.
To get more information about a child, click the additional information link on the child’s profile.
Call an AdoptOntario clinical coordinator
Families may call or email an AdoptOntario clinical coordinator to speak in more depth about a specific child, or the adoption process in general.
Please bear in mind that a child’s permanency plan outlines some of the criteria the agency is seeking in an adoptive family. If you meet these criteria, and you are still interested, we will invite you to officially express interest in the child.
Express interest in a child
Expressing interest in a child involves completing an Expression of Interest (EOI) form by clicking here, or having a clinical coordinator email it to you.
You can either complete the EOI form, or ask your adoption worker to communicate your interest. Your adoption worker can access the child’s information on the Adoption Resources Databank.
Once the form is completed, the clinical coordinator will send it directly to the child’s adoption worker. The adoption worker will then view your family’s AdoptOntario profile that you created when you signed up. You can go back and edit this profile at any time. If you have been registered by your worker for the Adoption Resources Databank (link to new databank page), they can also see this extensive info and your homestudy.
Note: If you or your worker do not have a response in three weeks, you can request an AdoptOntario clinical coordinator to follow up with the child’s adoption professional regarding the status of the family’s inquiry.
After expressing interest in a child
After you express interest in a child, the child’s adoption professional will contact the family’s adoption professional, or the family directly, to share and gather more information.
