Special Presentation

The Lifelong Impact of Early Trauma and Neglect: The Brain, Body and Healing
By Mary Jo Land, Registered Psychotherapist

The human brain develops optimally within caring and safe relationships. When young children experience adverse events or toxic stress within the family context, the development of the brain and its connections with the body adapt to these conditions. These adaptations permit survival and the development of resilience. Through permanency and within new relationships we see the development of overall well-being and resilience in children.

Mary-Jo is a private practice clinician offering individual and family therapy. Her primary focus in therapy is resolving early childhood trauma and facilitating (secondary) attachment of children to their parents, foster and adoptive parents. She offers consultation and supervision to therapists in the field and offers workshops internationally in the fields of attachment, bonding and trauma to parents and to therapists. Mary-Jo is a parent to biological and adoptive children and an experienced foster parent.
