On Wednesday, February 16, 2022, AdoptOntario invites you to Uniquely Me, an Online Adoption Event. Not only will you have an opportunity to learn more about adoption and available resources, but you will also learn about an amazing 12-year-old boy named Jake, who is looking for permanency.
The evening will begin with an educational component led by Lori DeWitte on the impacts of developmental trauma. In this 30-minute presentation, Lori will share her learning and experiences of establishing a trauma informed environment in a school and home setting. She will help us to understand the impact of developmental trauma on children and how these experiences can manifest themselves in the classroom and at home. As an experienced adoptive parent, Lori’s understanding is further strengthened by her lived experience.
Following the presentation from Jake's adoption workers, we will conclude our evening with an adoptive parent panel and provide you with an opportunity to ask questions about adoption and permanency journeys.
Meet the Youth
This hockey loving, tech savvy, baker has many interests and hobbies. Jake loves to spend his time playing board games, exploring the outdoors, investigating the things he takes apart and lending a hand! He is a kind and sweet youth who has great manners and interesting conversations.
Jake is really looking forward to spending dinners, activities and trips as a family unit. He also yearns to have a two-parent family who is reliable and can demonstrate an unconditional commitment to him. He will need permanency parents who are flexible in their expectations and will take the time to educate themselves and build their skills to best support Jake. He is open to being a single child in the home or having a sibling that is at least five years older than him.
