Abby | July 2019

Date July 12, 2019 Author adoptontarioca Categories Monthly Profile
Back

Abby is an adventurous teen with a very detailed bucket-list of her plans this summer. This includes: going zip lining, trying the new rides at Wonderland, going to the drive in, and having sleepovers in the backyard. Other things on her "to do" list include learning French fluently; learning to speak Spanish; and learning sign language (which she thinks would be "kind of cool"). She has a best friend whom she has known since grade 4 and who remains her one true confidante but she also has a wider circle of friends. Food is another passion of Abby's. She loves to eat and enjoys all kinds of cuisine! She is looking forward to feasting on fruit during the summer months, especially her favourites- pineapple and pomegranates.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
Personality Academics

"Carpe Diem," words Abby loves to live by. Over the past few years, Abby has grown comfortable to finally be herself without fear of judgement. She has an adventurous spirit and amongst her group of friends, she likes to take risks and not be held back by worries or inhibitions. Her philosophy is to live her life as if every day is her last day.

Abby cannot believe that she will soon be finishing highschool and graduating. She is finishing up her co-op placement at a law firm and has enjoyed the learning experience. Although she is not yet sure what career she would like to pursue but she does see herself going onto post-secondary studies and continues to have a big interest in law.

Special Considerations Matching Considerations

Abby would like to know that someone in a parenting role will take their role seriously; will have reasonable rules; and will do things with children and youth. She still has very fond memories of going on a family trip to the Caribbean with her current foster family.

Prospective families will need to be very sensitive to Abby's history of trauma and work hard to build her trust. Abby used to see a trauma focused therapist for a number of years. She is prepared to go back to counselling if necessary. There are no other specialized services required at this time, apart from periodic review by a cardiologist.

Abby would like a family that she can stay with and be involved with as an adult. She understands the reality of trying to build new relationships at her age and has not thought of living on her own in the near future. Instead, her hope is to live at home and integrate with a permanent family while she continues to work on figuring out her life plans.

A family that is kind, sincere, and wholly committed to developing a strong bond with Abby would be best for this social teen. Abby is a very personable, fun loving youth and she would enjoy taking part in many activities such as camping, hiking and traveling. She is equally comfortable relaxing at home and binge watching her favourite T.V. series such as Grey's Anatomy, Law and Order SVU, Blue Bloods, Will and Grace.

Openness Questions?

Abby has a close relationship with her younger siblings. A family for Abby will need to support this important sibling connection. The frequency of contact is to be determined, but currently Abby sees her siblings a few times a year. Ongoing periodic contact with her current foster family will be of benefit to Abby as she has a positive relationship with her foster mother and has lived in this home for three years.
