Taylor’s shy smile will light up any room! He is a wonderful, imaginative boy – so excited to try new things, and to learn. He really likes robots…in fact he programed his very own using his iPad! He is very inquisitive and can easily figure out how things work. It is no wonder his favourite show to watch on the weekend is “how it’s made”. He also spends time in the bush viewing animal tracks, making animal calls and using the GoPro camera to catch videos of wildlife in the backyard.

Taylor loves swim lessons, fishing, kayaking, swimming and being outdoors as much as he can. When indoors, he will likely be found watching TV, YouTube videos, movies, and playing video games. Taylor has a healthy appetite and enjoys a variety of foods. He enjoys his fruits and vegetables but his favourite meal will always be pasta and meatballs with pudding pie for dessert.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
Personality Academics

Taylor benefits from a predictable routine in the foster home. He will play quietly in his room until breakfast. Taylor enjoys the responsibility of feeding the pet fish at home and enjoys other tasks such as getting dressed, brushing his teeth and tidying his toys at night. At times when Taylor becomes overwhelmed and has difficulty expressing his feelings in a healthy way, the use of time outs, redirection and reassurances have been effective.

Taylor attends a Primary Integration Behavior Program at a local public school. He has been in the same school for over two years now. He has six students in his class and he joins a regular classroom for part of the day. Taylor needs support at school, as he can be shy and nervous.

The school has indicated that their focus for Taylor is socialization and behavior management. Taylor learns and works best on academics though board games and improvised hands on play. He enjoys being part of a book club, even though he is still working on his reading skills. His caregivers read to him every night. Taylor continues to work on his relationship with peers. He requires continued support in acquiring the appropriate skills in social settings to form positive friendships.

Openness Special Considerations

Taylor currently has visits with his younger sister. This relationship is very important to him and he needs to know his sister is okay. Taylor would do best with a family who will support an ongoing relationship with his sister.

Medical appointments tend to create feelings of anxiety for Taylor and he benefits from added support in these situations. Taylor does well with coaching prior to appointments to best prepare him. He needs to continue to work on being polite and healthy ways to process his feelings. Taylor is currently taking medication to assist with focus and managing behavioural needs.

Taylor gets very anxious with any loud white noise – loud clapping in a group of people, yelling, loud bangs and noises. If he cannot make the noises stop, he will run and hide. He has just started being clear vocally to his foster parent that these things bother him.

A family for Taylor will have to support him in processing his difficult early life experiences and be open to the possibility of pre-natal alcohol exposure.

Matching Considerations Questions?

Taylor would do best with skilled adoptive parents who can provide a safe, secure, structured, dependable and nurturing home. He will need parents who accept his history of trauma and needs associated with difficult early life experiences. A family for Taylor will need to be strong advocates for him in the school, community and home, in ensuring that he receives the formal supports that he will require in order to reach his full potential.
